Tuesday - John Lewis Advert (UK) - 22/03/05

First off - thanks to everyone who showed up at the Forth on Saturday - How hot was it (It must've been 70 degrees) ?! It was an interesting evening, and was good to see people out.

If you're in the UK you may've seen an advert for the department store John Lewis with some very nice reggae-ish background music ? If you're wondering who it is I'm pleased to report it's a J.S.T.A.R.S B-side "Loose Nuke Threat" from 2003 (and not Mr Scruff as I thought!) - the title isn't representative of the track - there's a link to a preview and somewhere to buy it from at the bottom of the page.

Catch you later.

Thirsty Ear Recordings - 18/03/05

In my pursuit of new vinyl to play this weekend (don't forget tomorrow at the Forth 19/03/05)
I heard a track on this label "DJ Spooky Vs Dave Lombardo - B Side Wins Again" a re-invention of the classic Public Enemy track. It's a rap/rock crossover produced by F&S favourite Jack Dangers (Meat Beat Manifesto) and can be heard at the link below.

It's worth noting that Vernon Reid is providing guitar duties - if you can remember the band "Living Colour" as well as Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. An odd mix of musicians, but it's a storming track.

Talking of the Meat Beat Manifesto, there's a new album due out unsuprisingly on Thirsty Ear...

All information on the links below.

Meet The Fockers - Wednesday 17/03/05

How do...

Last night I went to see "Meet The Fockers"

Not the best film in the world, but I was very impressed by how young Babs Streisand looks, considering she must be almost a pensioner, she's looking quite fly (she must have a good plastic surgeon!)

Anyway - Flint & Steel are playing "The Forth" bar in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (link below) on Saturday 19/03/05 - the usual mix of hip hop/funk/broken beats with a healthy dose of scratching.

On looking for new records to play, I found a really good online record store ( with MP3's for each track (link below) . Check them out...

That's all for now.

Monday - Unabomber review and stuff... 14/03/05

Hope you had a good weekend and you're feeling refreshed this fine Monday morning.

I feel very tired, I must be getting old...

So after watching an extremely funny episode of Nathan Barley on (UK) Channel 4

I headed off to the stage door to listen to the Unabombers do their business, and quite frankly it was a bit of a disappointment.

Starting off with broken beat synth funk (which was great), the night gradually disintegrated into faceless house, which appealed to the people who had turned up (I guess I was in a minority) so I headed upstairs where old skool tunes could be heard.

Never mind, Max Sedgley and Bugz in the Attic are scheduled for the next few weeks, so hopefully that'll sate my more adventurous musical tastes !

Also, I became Uncle Flint again at the weekend, congrats to Jo & GĂ©rry on having Anya (6lb 13oz) on Sunday morning.

That's all for now.
